This is what we believe to be a large early Victorian, hand-cut glass rummer dating from the middle of the 19th century, c1850. The glass is in good condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 150 years of use. It has a polished out pontil mark on the foot. The glass has a bucket-shaped bowl measuring 10.7 cm (4.3 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is cut with a frieze of starbust motifs above a diamond cut frieze and a lower frieze of finger flutes The bowl sits on a capstan stem with a medial annular knop and leads to a shallow, conical, slightly irregularly shaped foot which measures 9.3 cm (3.7 inches) in diameter. The glass is 14.5 cm (5.8 inches) in height. The bowl rim has been professionally ground down at some time in the past, leaving a couple of very thin flake chips off the inside edge of the rim. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration. It is made from lead glass weighing in at 520 g.
