The letters concern tickets received to see British Prime Minister Winston Churchill gave his rousing speech to a joint session of the United States Congress on December 26. 1941. The United States and Great Britain became Allies in World War II after the Japanese attacked the US at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. One letter is from President Roosevelt's personal White House Secretary Grace Tully and the other letter is from then United States Senator and later US Vice President Alben Barkley concerning two tickets sent by Senator Barkley to Grace Tully to see Churchill's historic speech. This letters came from the estate of Grace Tully who was President Roosevelt's Personal White House secretary.
