Cox & Co., £100 Ordinary shares, 19[13], ornate border, embossed seal depicting a cockerel, signed by H G Hammersley and G P Campbell as Directors, red, light folds, very fine. Established in 1758 when Richard Cox was appointed as agent to pay the First Foot Guards (later to become the Grenadier Guards). Other Regiments followed suit and Cox & Co was formed as bankers for the almost the entire army.In 1918 the company was sold to Lloyds Bank. H G Hammersley and G P Campbell were both partners in Cox & Co. The London Gazette of 1893 also lists Richard Cox and R C Hammersley as partners. Hammersley & Co. was established by Thomas Hammersley in 1796. He married Ann Greenwood, sister of Charles Greenwood, who was a partner with Cox & Co.
