You are bidding on a New and Never Displayed, Still in the Box Corgi P47D Thunderbolt, 226641, Col. Dave Schilling, CO 56th FG, Boxted, December 1944. This model is in MINT condition and the box is in excellent condition. Can be displayed wheels up on the included stand or wheels down. Pilot figure is in the aircraft. This models features a "bubble-top" canopy rather than the sharply peaked "razorback" fuselage which resulted in poor visibility for the aircraft's pilot. The model is constructed almost entirely of diecast metal with only the smallest amount of plastic used. Once the war started Schilling was quickly promoted and by 1st March 1942 had made Captain before assuming command of the 62nd FS. In June of that year the 56th FG received a consignment of P-47B's in advance of its move to the UK. This P-47D was one of seven P-47s assigned to Schilling during his time with the 56th FG, this particular fighter revealed an early 'Wolfpack' penchant for painting Dogpatch cartoon characters on the Thunderbolts by featuring a neat rendering of 'Hairless Joe' on its cowling. Schilling was promoted to Colonel and had a final tally of 22.5 kills.
