Colonial Williamsburg "Trap Ball" Game This game originated in the moors of Yorksire, England. It can be traced back to the beginning of the 14th century and was especially popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. As late as the 1930s, exhibition games drew large crowds. It is played with a wooden trap that when stomped on, launches the leather ball into the air. The player then hits the ball with the paddle. The object of the game is to hit the ball the greatest possible distance, either in one or several hits. Each player competes as an individual, without interference, and any number can play at one time. This set contains the trap, the leather ball, and the paddle and comes with instructions on the rules of play.
