Robinson 52 Courtland St." Sub text to title in bottom center margin reads "Like Boxers Thus Before The Fight, Their Hands In Friendship They Unite". Referencing Martin Van Buren's visit to Saratoga Springs, NY in 1839 depicting MVB and Clay greeting in a ballroom w/Sen. Nathaniel P. Tallmadge and Gen. Winfield Scott at left. Text of MVB to Clay "Mr. Clay you are welcome to the Empire state, I am quite rejoiced to see you so popular among the good people." Clay's response, "I thank you Mr. President for this cordial reception it is a proud and noble state and when thrown upon her own energies and resources uninjured by experiments she will be first in grandeur and prosperity as she is the first in population & patriotism." The "experiments" Clay references are regarding MVB independent treasury program linked to Andrew Jackson's abolishing of the Bank of the United States. Gen.
