This is a beautiful gutta percha case containing four framed tintype photographs, which is quite rare. These photos depict members of the Barker family of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and are surrounded by gilded metal frames. The case itself features a carving of three young girls playing with toys on both the front and the back. This is in excellent condition, with very minor appropriate wear throughout. The hinges and snap both work very well. T is a label behind the photographs that dates it at 1857. The case measures 3âe x 4 ¼âe. This is a rare and gorgeous artifact of Civil War era America, and is a true treasure.
