Civil War era Picket Signal Lantern - as seen in Lords. This is the same type of lantern pictured in Lords Civil War Collectors Encyclopedia Vol. III p. 73.A very similar lantern recovered from the Confederate submarine Hunley. Search images of artifacts from the Hunley for comparison.This example stands about 6¾ inches tall and is 3⅛ inches in diameter. Most of original finish is gone leaving clean tin with traces of finish. No rust. The sliding signal window still functions but is missing the knob The thick signal lens is unbroken. Has both of the handles. The whale oil burner is present. Really neat piece for a Civil War signal corps and navy display. THANKS FOR LOOKING AND GOOD LUCK
