"Celebrating Catawba Valley Potters Past & Present" is a very informative book for all Southern Pottery collectors or history buffs. This 42 page soft cover book was compiled by members of Wesley Chapel UMC, including Tim Blackburn who is an active member of the board of the North Carolina Pottery Center, for their annual pottery festival. This book documents Catawba Valley potters from the 19th century up to the present 21st century with stories from their descendants living today. It features pictures and historical information on many of the well known early potters of this area such as Ritchie, Hilton, Blackburn, Childers, etc. and modern day potters including Steve Abee, Mike Ball, B R Hilton, and other present day local artists. There are many pictures both color and black & white of the potters and their pottery. Also included are pictures, old and new and a brief history of Wesley Chapel UMC (where many of these early potters are buried), Wesley Chapel Academy, and Wesley Chapel Arbor which dates to 1900 and is still used today by the church members. This is a new oop book (compiled and printed in 2009) and would make an excellent gift for anyone interested in Southern Pottery or a nice addition to your own library. No international shipments, contiguous U.S.A. states only.
