You are bidding on original Calvin and Hobbes tribute artwork by cartoonist Ellen Liebenthal ! Proceeds from this auction will benefit the Cartoon Art Museum of California, a nonprofit educational museum. This ink illustration by Liebenthal measures 9” x 12”.Born and raised on Long Island, Ellen Liebenthal was fed a steady diet of The Three Stooges, Monty Python , and Mad Magazine . She has been drawing cartoons ever since she was able to hold a pencil. The scribbles in the margins of her school notebooks led to original comic strips. In 2017, with a new sketchbook in hand, she found a way to combine her undergraduate degrees in Linguistics and Art. What began as 10 drawings of original cartoon characters, quickly turned into a collection of 100, then 500. On the two-year mark, she reached her goal of 1,000. One thousand characters sounded cooler anyway. Each character has its own language system and fun fact. 1000characters is the love child of theoretical linguistics and an unbridled imagination. From 9 to 5, she is a professional graphic designer in the fabric industry. From 5 to 9, she’s a professional cartoonist, illustrator, and writer. Most recently, she was named Social Media Manager for the National Cartoonists Society.ABOUT THE AUCTIONThe Cartoon Art Museum is proud to announce its second biennial Tribute Auction, read more
