24x36" on thin stock. Produced by ACT UP New York. Features skull and crossbones in place of stars. Some minor edge wear along the bottom and a few minor creases seen in reflected light. Bright coloration. Still Exc. An important cause poster. Used by AIDS activists who were frustrated with the lack of urgency that the George H.W. Bush administration seemed to have to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The epidemic grew dramatically while he was in office (1989-1993). In 1990 Bush signed the Ryan White CARE Act, which was the largest federally funded program for assisting people living with HIV/AIDS. By 1992, HIV had become the leading cause of death in the U.S. for men aged 25-44. LGBTQ+ and AIDS activists accused Bush's actions of being mixed at best, marked by calculated indifference at worst, with his soft rhetoric not paired with enough meaningful action, according to an NPR article written after his death in 2018.
