Brhonda Payne J R Cooper 1999 Folk Pottery Face Jug Oil Painting (SEE PHOTOS ABOVE); Ron Cooper or J R Cooper as he signs his work is a Southern Folk Potter who has deep roots in the Georgia clay having worked with pottery legend W J 'Bill' Gordy for 5 years as a young man starting in 1959. In 1980, he started his own pottery operation and has been turning clay every since beginning at various craft and Folk Art shows and now operating from his small shop in Cherokee County, Georgia. Ron is originally from Cass Station near the railroad community of Cassville, Georgia and many of his best known pieces are Face Jugs that incorporate people he knew in that small rural community growing up. The world famous potter W J Gordy operated from a small shop on Cassville Road just a few miles from Cass Station. This J R Cooper Folk Pottery Face Jug oil painting is by Brhonda Payne and was purchased on 9/15/2001 at the Roselawn Arts & Crafts Festival in Cartersville, Georgia just a few miles South of Cass Station.
