For sale is a rare pair of Bradley & Hubbard (B&H) bookends depicting a quote from William Cullen Bryant's famous poem "Thanatopis". B & H Metal Works of Connecticut was in business from 1853 until 1940 - bookends did not appear from B&H until the 1870's. These are marked with the pre-1920 hallmark of flowers above and below the encircled B&H mark on the back. Each bookend contains the quote, "GO FORTH UNDER THE OPEN SKY, AND LIST TO NATURES TEACHINGS". Bryant's poem "Thanatopis" literally means a view of death and is considered a classic as it offers a peaceful view of death and comfort for the living. These bookends measure 6" in height and are 4 1/2" wide. The well-known B&H logo is impressed on the back of each bookend. Please contact me with any questions.
