Local pick up in Santa Ana 92705. Chinese Vintage Glazed Dragon Egg Pot Planter 20" X 20"This is a beautiful vintage stoneware pot with a dragon design on the outside. These pots are usually referred to as egg pots, or black egg pots. They were used to store and cure eggs, know as 100 year old eggs, Thousand year old Eggs, or Century eggs. Chicken or Duck eggs are preserved with several ingredients and over the course of a few months the eggs turn brownish black and are a delicacy in Chinese cuisine.This pot has a traditional dragon that represents good luck glazed onto the outside clay before firing. The dragon and some other designs are a yellow-ish tan on a brown background.The inside of the pot is pale beige. top edge glazed in an aqua blue color. This could be used as a planter although the pot does not have drain holes in the bottom.There is some running of the colors in the glazing on the bottom half, as well as some wear and chipping.There is a hairline crack from the top to about 8" into the pot.Chinese Vintage Glazed Dragon Egg Pot Planter Region: ChinaApprox. Size: 20" Tall x 20" diameter.You can bring this indoors and use for holding bamboo stalks or other tall branches or firewood.Enjoy!
