This 2-D cell B-Lite aluminum flashlight was made 30 years ago. It is Mint-in-the-Box and is in Excellent Condition. Serial Number on side of case: 240319. It is 9.75 inches long.B-Lites were extremely well made. Features include, most are unique to B-Lites. l. The inner portion of the aluminum lens ring was polished to enlarge and enhance the reflective power.2 The endcap was rounded to allow easy insertion in a pocket or ring holder on a Sam Brown.3. O rings make B-Lites waterproof.4. Endcaps were hollowed to hold a spare bulb.5. The red rubber switch, surrounded by the black case, is easy to see and easy to locate.John Bianchi made the first Model B-Lite Aluminum flashlight for law enforcement in 1975 . His shop was in Temecula, California. John Bianchi was a cop in the 1950s for the city of Monrovia, a suburb of Los Angeles. Bianchi gives full credit to Don Keller for inventing and designing the first heavy-duty aluminum flashlight for law enforcement. Keller was a Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff about the same time that John Bianchi was a police officer for the city of Monrovia. The reinforced flashlight was a weapon born of necessity. Both Keller and Bianchi relate stories of destroying several 5 cell Rayovac or Eveready flashlights when suddenly attacked while interrogating subjects. In the field, the flashlight was defensely held about eye level, with the end resting on the shoulder. When a subject attacked without warning, the flashlight was what officers had in their hands and that became their first line of defense. A well struck blow with a regular flashlight usually slowed down a suspect long enough for the officer produce the weapon required for each specific occasion. Meanwhile, the flashlight was history, with parts and batteries scattered all over the ground.These 2-D cells flashlights were usually not used on patrol. They were a convenient size to have in the car, or around the house. Cops learned to appreciate the well made aluminum flashlights they carried in the field, and ofter bought a shorter one to use at home.When Don Keller left Kel-Lite in 1972, John Bianchi engaged Keller to help design the first B-Lite in 1974. In 1984 Bianchi made a several improvements to the B-Lite, including the switch. He replaced the slide switch with a red rubber, push button switch. John Bianchi produced B-Lites from 1975 to 1985. This improved switch model was made for approximately one year before John Bianchi quit making B-Lites in 1885. That means that fewer B-Lites with the Improved switch models were made.Bianchi didn’t make flashlight boxes for 2-D cell B-Lites. They were put them in a3-cell boxes and a styrofoam spacer, the length of a D cell battery, was added to fill the space.The Bianchi B-Lite was really made with a heavy-Duty aluminum Case wall that measures .157 inches thick. That was much thicker than most, if not all, other machined aluminum flashlights. If you admire well made objects, this B-Lite may be just what you need.Included with this sale is the Original Bianchi B-Lite box and Guarantee slip.
