Here is another great Aurora reissue from Atlantis models, the 1969 square box glow-in-the-dark Phantom of the Opera, this time around authorized by the Chaney Estate to lend a dose of authenticity. The bold and beautiful James Bama cover art was retouched to simulate the glow effect by another Aurora artist, which some collectors consider sacrilege but I find illuminating. In the case of this reissue I am more distracted by the Chaney licensing logo and the flag on the side panel, but then I am always looking to pretend I am roaming the aisles of Ben Franklin in 1974 so perhaps I'm too much of an originalist. Speaking of authenticity, this kit is made from mold-injected parts from the original Aurora molds and thus is in 1:8 scale. A pretty grisly kit considering it was aimed at 12 year olds, that "forgotten prisoner" in the dungeon either has a bad case of rot or has been the victim of serial rat attacks and looked considerably more dilapidated than the phantom himself!
