This sword would make a nice addition for the Japanese sword or world militaria collector. ** Please scroll down to see additional photos. **This dress sword has a wire-wrapped same/rayskin grip. This sword has a leather saya/scabbard with fine gold gilt naval fittings. The guard is stamped with the naval anchor, and also with the 'harp' symbol (this harp stamp is also present on tsubas made for Yasukuni Shrine shin-gunto mounted swords) . The blade is more stout, and substantial than the blades on later swords. This sword measures 32 7/8" overall when sheathed in its saya. The sword blade itself measures 25 1/2". Condition: This World War II Imperial Japanese Navy Officer's dress sword is in excellent condition. The braided wire on the grip is in excellent condition--with no breaks or frayed wires. The rest of the handle is in excellent condition as well, and has much of its original gold gilt finish. The fold-down guard lock functions and fits perfectly. Everything is nice and tight on this sword. The blade is perfectly straight. The blade has lost most of its plating. The blade surface has minor, surfacy-type pitting, and carbon staining. The scabbard fittings have most of their original gold gilt. The leather has the expected minor crazing, but is in healthy condition. This listing represents the opportunity to procure a genuine WW2 Japanese Naval Officer's dress sword for your collection. It is especially hard to find Naval dress swords like this one that have a scabbard that is still in excellent condition. Collectors will find that normally, many/most Naval leather scabbards are broken in half after all of these years.
