ANTIQUE WOOD CRATE BOOTH'S CALIFORNIA CANNERY SARDINES Up for auction is: Antique/Vintage WOOD SHIPPING CRATE circa 1900-1940 BOOTH'S CALIFORNIA CRESCENT SARDINES 19" long x 9 1/2" X 14" Frank Booth built the first San Francisco cannery in what is now the famous "Cannery Row" in 1895, starting with Salmon. He started canning Sardines in 1900. Check out this great website with some information directly about this company. There's a lot more info out on the web also. Please note photos were taken on a sunny day-some photos were in more direct sun, some in shade, that's why the difference in how colors are lighter in some photos than others. /pgs-misc/cannery-row.html This great old wood craft is in original condition and from the first cannery in San Francisco's famous Cannery Row! Nothing's been done except wiped off with water. If you do a search for "Booth's California Sardines", you will find a lot of information about this company. Sardine production and sales were huge through WWI and thru to the 1940's when production sharply declined. Great picture of a large Sardine on the front.
