This auction is for a rare A.B. Wheeler & Co. 3 gallon stoneware crock with a beautiful cobalt blue bird decoration. This crock is incised A.B. Wheeler & Co. 69 Broad Street Boston, Mass. above a large number 3. There is a very large decoration of a bird on a branch, which takes up most of the front of the crock. The crock is about 10.5" tall and 10.5" wide and is in excellent condition. There are no cracks or repairs, and only 3 very small chips. The largest is about 3/8" and is on the rim. There is also a very small chip on the right handle, and another tiny chip to the rim. The interior glaze of the crock is perfect and remarkably clean. This crock was freshly picked from an attic in an old Andover, Massachusetts estate. A.B. Wheeler & Co. was active from about 1860-1890 and I would estimate this crock to date from around 1880. This is a beautiful crock and would make a wonderful addition to any stoneware collection. Good luck and . Please see my other auctions.
