Composed of 14k rose gold, the pendant features beautiful jadeite jade stones and sparkly diamonds. As indicated by the markings on the bale, this piece was made by famed jeweler T.Y. Lee who was active in Hong Kong prior to World War II. During the Art Deco era, Chinese stone cutters were revered for their meticulous and detailed work with a variety of stones, especially jadeite jade. Since the Victorian era, wealthy Europeans had been custom ordering jewelry from China as Chinese jewelers were considered some of the best in the world. The process of ordering, making and receiving a Chinese export piece could take months at a time, so pieces like this pendant were very expensive and highly desirable.The jadeite jade stone is green in hue and semi-translucent, allowing light to filter through its body and illuminate its color, a quality enhanced by its domed, cabochon cut. To keep the stone secure, it rests in a rose gold prong setting, the vibrancy of the gold a lovely contrast to the cool green of the jadeite jade. To one side of the stone are six diamonds, arranged in a column, each colorless and eye-clean. The stones have old European cuts, which provide eye-catching sparkle and shimmer as light reflects off their facets from different angles. Like the jadeite jade, the diamonds rest in rose gold prong settings.The face of the pendant features curling, ribbon like motifs as well as curled leaves, all of which are made entirely out of 14k rose gold. Completing the pendant is a rose gold standard bale which allows the piece to be paired with a variety of antique chains and necklaces. A classic example of Chinese jewelry made by T.Y.
