This is the price a piece would be worth if stripped down and melted to its bare materials.The HistoryThis beautiful pair of earrings comes from the Art Deco Era! The Art Deco Era is famous for being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period.During the Art Deco Period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.Chinese Export jewelry became popular during the late Victorian Period and lasted until the 1960's. In a lot of ways Chinese Export jewelry fashioned what we know of jewelry today. During these period's Chinese Craftsmen including Jewelers, Stone cutters were considered by far the best in the world.The rich and wealthy would have a piece custom ordered through their local jeweler whom was usually gifted at drawing a design to send off to contacts in China to craft and send back. As you can imagine, this was not cheap, that being said, these pieces are very rare and few have survived until today.Repoussé began as an ancient metal working technique, involving malleable silver first formed with a specially created three-dimensional mold and then further refined by hammering from the reverse side and adding detail to the front. The finished work was intricate, with grooves, indentation and channeling. It was then carefully polished as an eye-catching treasure.During The Art Deco & Art Nouveau Era's, Moonstone was brought into jewelry by designers such as Tiffany's & Rene Lalique. Moonstone is often symbolized with the moon due to the Opalescent hue that it gives off that reminds the viewer of the moon peering through a thin layer of clouds.Amethyst has been set in religious jewelry and royal crown jewels for ages. It was once considered equal in value to ruby, emerald, and sapphire. Amethyst has even adorned the fingers of bishops as well as the coronation regalia of British royalty.There are visible inclusions in each Moonstone, and one Moonstone has a hairline surface crack along the bottom edge. The Moonstone in the other earring has a small scratch on the surface. Please view the photos for a better understanding of the condition of the Moonstones.The PieceThe earrings each include a hand oval cabochon cut and polished Moonstone, and a round cabochon cut and polished Amethyst! The Moonstones feature a light blue color and an opalescent, cloudy hue. The Amethysts are a gorgeous deep lavender purple. The colors in the two stones used in contention compliment each other very nicely! Both stones feature bezel settings.The earrings are expertly hand crafted out of Sterling Silver and are hollow. The motif showcases two dangling, majestic peacocks, and the Repouss é silver work is incredibly detailed and intricate! The birds have beautiful riveted tail feathers, beaks, eyes, and outlined wings. The Amethyst is strategically placed between the peacocks, as if together they are holding the stone in place with their claws. The entire body of the earrings hangs from the bezel set Moonstone. Around the bezel is a rope twist border for further added detail.The earrings are quite long, with a wearable length of 2 and 1/4" by 7/8" wide. The moonstone measures just over 1/4" tall by just under 1/4" wide, and the Amethyst has a diameter of approximately 4 mm.
