Antique William Kerr Sterling Silver Kissing Cherubs Repousse BuckleThis lovely buckle is one of William Kerr's cherished designs in the form of a buckle - waiting for a velvet ribbon to transform into a choker! This is an adorable buckle; each side depicts two cherubs kissing. Their wings emerge from the fluid Art Nouveau design, and they are encircled in a decadent frame adorned with flowers. When closed it spans 2-1/2" long by approximately 1-1/8" high. It is slightly convex, and the back shows two sets of squarish loops on either side to accommodate a belt, sash or ribbon. The piece is in good antique condition, with the upper right of the right side buckle experiencing a trauma in its history, showing a very slight ripple in the back and a tiny split at that area. The front is not effected and it is only noticeable on close inspection (please see photos). It is priced accordingly.Kerr was a popular manufacturer of silver in the Art Nouveau design. William B. Kerr was originally established in Newark, New Jersey in 1855. The company was a maker of flat and tableware, sterling silver and gold dresser ware, and jewelry.Kerr's hallmark was a fasces - a single-bit axe with rods bound with straps.
