Up for auction is a very rare photographic directory of San Francisco the streets, businesses and its buildings. It is titled "The Illustrated Directory" San Francisco Vol. 1, No. 9. It is copyright 1894. It contains 17 pages and an appendix page at the back. It measures 14" wide x 10 1/2" tall. The book is in very nice condition. This is a very rare piece only known to be in a few private collections. It was very ahead of its time with images of each block of San Francisco's business district. Without it, historians would know much less about the visual appearance of late 19th century SF, much of which was destroyed in the catastrophic earthquake and fire of 1906. Fresh out of a recent local estate.
