Antique Salt Glazed Stoneware "DEEP BLUE BIRD" Jug made around 1890 in Flemington New Jersey by Fulper Brothers Pottery. The Fulper Pottery spaned almost 100 years of fine stoneware manufacture in Flemington, N.J.. Highly collectable and unique both in design and form they were the premiere pottery of their day.This jug is a hard to find salt glazed example of the Fulper Bird on a twig. Most examples of the bird are done in Bristol Glaze and were made later in the 1890's. As kiln burning was a very inaccurate science of the day anything could happen and this one got singed. The bird is outstanding and deep blue almost indigo in color. There is a sturdy strap handle and an incised line around the lip. Unique and a bit quirky this jug remains a hard to find example of some of Fulper's finest work complete with some burned feathers. It is a two gallon size as reflected by the incised number "2" on the face.There is a system of hairlines on the bottom and one travels the side about half way. There are no other post kiln condition items to note.Dimensions are 13" tall by 9 " wide.This item will be double boxed and shipped properly and promptly.
