Lovely old majolica plate depicting a shaggy dog outside of a dog house, with his dish which contains a small bone. Made by the Arsenal pottery company, part of the Mayer Pottery Company, of Trenton, New Jersey. Arsenal operated from about 1876 to 1905, to give you an idea of how old this is. Sponge-painted back, with a hand-painted numeral 14. Beautiful leaf-motif around the rim.Heavy - weighs about two pounds. Dimensions: 11 & ¼ inches across the center, and stands 1 & ¾ inches high. The dog resembles an Old English Sheepdog, or a Briard, or similar. There are some fleabites in the rim. There is a small crack (about 1" long) on the back that does not go all the way through to the front, except for showing about ¼-inch at the rim.
