For those of you who have been bidding on or buying my bedcovers and quilts, this is one of the fancier ones. As with the others, they come from my wonderful girlfriend who was descended from the first Governor of Kentucky, Issac Shelby. She inherited these about 50 years ago, and upon her recent death, I inherited them. Please don't think I am a beast or that I don't appreciate them, it is just that she left me so many, that I really can not keep them all. This looks to me as though it was for a marriage bed. As I have stated before, I am a corporate art consultant, so I know much about art, but little about textiles. Still, it is obvious when something is of very fine quality, and all of these pieces are excellent. I should think they are valuable both for their history and their quality. This one is also entirely handmade, and the material seems to be a very fine cotton or linen. 'HCQuilts' an ebayer and textile historian has given me abit of info, and she says this is knitted...since I know so little, I must agree with her, but it is the finest, and smallest knitting stitch I have ever seen. The color is a very natural, ie.not dyed, creme color. The quilts I have sold before were about 100 years old, so I know that this is at least that old, but I am guessing that it is about 20 to 25 years older. A small piece of paper was pinned
