I have collected interesting pieces of art for so many years I do not remember where I acquired this. I tend to buy paintings that I can tell (through my loupe) are NOT prints. I can see the finely detailed brushstrokes on Composer Richard Wagner here, although it is so difficult to capture the beauty of this miniature with my iPhone camera and the lighting and reflections in my makeshift photography studio for eBay. Certainly I can see the (gouache?) brushstrokes on the hair and clothing, they are not visible on the face. Perhaps the face was done with watercolors. Wagner was born in Germany in 1813 and died in Venice Italy in 1883. This miniature Painting is stamped on the back "Made in Italy". The Painting is under slightly convex Glass (I think). The paper had been torn away from the back of this Frame when I purchased it, and it appears that there are metal tabs that hold everything in place. The wood Frame measures 7.25" x 6.5" x .75" thick. The oval Metal (I think) rim around the Painting is 3.5" x 2.75". There is a somewhat fuzzy flocked felt "mat" between the oval and the frame. Other information on the back of the frame includes a sticker with 324 / C Wagner, 16.50 700 6-8 204-D 3247C. The signature on the front may be H I L or H. L. I apologize that I cannot be 100% sure about some of the details on this beautiful miniature. read more
