This is an ornate cast iron picture/photo frame that stands approximately 11 ¼” in height by 8 ¼” in width, at its widest point. The opening would hold a 6 1/8” x 4 ¼” picture or photo. This ornate frame features a classic Rococo design of acanthus leaves and fancy scrollwork that is finished with bright gold gilding. An easel-back pivoting leg is attached to the back of the frame that helps support the weighty frame in an upright position. Three metal stays, or clips for holding the glass in place, are attached with screws. The glass insert and cardboard back is missing. The manufacturer is unknown but an impressed number, “2172”, is located on the back of the frame. This antique frame is in very good condition with the exception of some discoloration and tarnish, with no evidence of damage other than the missing glass and backing. It is a striking easel-back frame that has a beautiful patina.
