Coal buckets/pails or also called coal scuttles or hods were used to hold coal for an indoor coal-fired stove or heater. Designed so that the coal could easily be poured into the stove or furnace. Wire bail handle for carrying. Dome-shaped grip handle on the end to help when pouring coal into stove. During the summer they were often used to carry vegetables from the garden. This one has vertical ribbed exterior design with a raised bottom (footed). Interior shows age and use (rust) but no holes. Circa early 1900s. Perfect for holding a tall house plant! Measures 16 inches long and 12 inches wide; 10 inches tall (excluding handle). Will be shipped within the USA only.
