JOHN EDWARDS ENGLISH IRONSTONE "CONGRESS" PLATTER This is classic English Ironstone. A simple and large serving platter manufactured between 1860-1880 in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent , Staffordshire , England . The platter bears an English hallmark and reads “Warranted Ironstone China Trademark John Edwards ”. “CONGRESS 21” pattern mark is embossed on the back. The large platter is in good overall condition and measures 18.75 inches x 13.75 inches and stands 1.6 inches high. Some utensil marks with a dime-sized surface ding along the edge—with the typical manufacturing glaze faults and stilt marks but no cracks, no stains, no crazing. Please see all pictures to help you judge condition. T his platter is a very sturdy and gorgeous piece of 19 th Century English ironstone. This antique ironstone platter was purchased at an estate auction in the mountains of North Carolina and has not been altered since purchased (other than washing off the dirt and dust). This large platter is perfect for your ironstone display and would look lovely used as an under-tray holding an ironstone water pitcher or a coffee or teapot with creamer and sugar.
