I bought it from a young man in his mid twenties, who told me that this was his great father's spittoon. This great grandfather had worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, and had been killed by an accident. He had been run over by a train. I have only cleaned this piece with soap and water. It is dented and tarnished and very beautiful. This is all that I know.
