This unreserved auction is for an antique American mahogany knife tray or utility carrier that dates from the late 18th century. It measures 13.5" long, 10.25" wide and 6.6" tall. The tray features fine hand-cut dovetailed canted corners, scalloped edges, and early nails that appear to be hand wrought. The carrier is in very good condition overall, and is solid and sturdy. There are a few hairline cracks, a small loss at the top corner as seen in the last photo, and other expected wear from age and use.A similar knife tray appears in Wallace Nutting's "Furniture Treasury" book (1928). See illustration #1622 titled "A Knife Tray Prettily Scrolled, And With Dovetails. 18th Century".Combined shipping is encouraged for multiple purchases. Thanks for looking.
