Authentic Paver Brick 'Don't Spit On The Sidewalk'This particular brick is about 9 inches long, is 4" tall and an inch and three quarters thick. It has chips and rough edges as you would expect, but is solid with no repairs or cracks.Dr. Samuel Crumbine, practiced in Dodge City before the turn of the century. He was the model for 'Doc' Adams on the 'Gunsmoke' TV show, was a public health pioneer. Crumbine campaigned against the practices thought to spread disease, such as eliminating the public drinking cup by promoting the use of disposable ones, warning against misleading labels on food and drugs and inventing a better flyswatter. His most famous campaign involved convincing brick manufactures to imprint bricks with the slogan of 'DON'T SPIT ON THE SIDEWALK', a habit of which he was sure spread diseases, such as tuberculosis. The bricks were manufactured at several different yards across Kansas during the early 1900s. As streets and sidewalks are being improved -- or demolished -- these bricks that were laid a hundred years ago are getting scarce. This chunk of American history displays nicely when stood on end as in the photos -- it's a great oddball gift or for someone studying medicine or public health.
