This incredible Jadeite brooch was most likely constructed in the early 1920s, however, judging by the carving, the Jadeite itself is much older. These pieces with the quality of jadeite and carving, are becoming difficult to find. The brooch has a bright silver gilt setting with very fine filigree wire work and embellishments. It is marked Silver and tests as silver. This item has been lightly cleaned. The gemstone was tested on a Presidium Gem Tester and is natural Jadeite. Every indication is that it's untreated - the age, type of carving, color saturation and distribution - all appear untreated and undyed. A jade expert has informed us that this jadeite is most likely from Burma. The back of the carving shows a smooth groove that runs lengthwise through the jadeite. The jadeite was probably attached to an article of clothing in the late 19th century. The carving has swirling clouds, lotus and foliage - all very auspicious and powerful symbols of luck, abundance and serenity. The brooch measures 1.75" L x .75" W. The jadeite itself is approximately 42mm L x 13.5mm W.It has a substantial weight of 15.9 grams.Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks or fissures in the jadeite. No breaks in the filigree.Thank you for visiting our listing. We welcome all your questions and comments.
