Anglo-Indian Sadeli Islamic Parquetry Mosaic Teak Jewellery Box c.1900Late Victorian or early 20th Century, Fine Quality, Anglo Indian or Indo-Persian bone inlaid wooden box. Teak inlaid with an Islamic geometric parquetry tessellated Sadeli mosaic of bone and specimen woods. Lined in red velvet with braided silk rope border rim. Slightly domed or convex lid. Featuring intricate all over hand cut and inlaid bone details.The ancient art of Sadeli Mosaic is said to have been introduced from Shiraz in Persia via Sind to Bombay. This type of box was made as early as the late 18th Century, but popularised by the British in the 19th Century.In excellent condition. 7" long x 5.5" wide x 1.75" deep
