African American Woman Dr Julia Hardin Atom Los Alamos Magazine LASL 1974 RARE!Up for auction is a rare cover of Dr. Julia Hardin doing research at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. The issue celebrates the women scientists working there which also includes Dr. Darleane Hoffman. I did a little research on Dr. Julia Hardin and found her obituary from 1991:Dr. Julia Hardin an African-American scientist and administrator for many years at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, New Mexico, died on Friday, July 26, 1991. Dr. Hardin's was a Biochemist and was an active researcher for many years at the laboratory before she became the director of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Education program. Dr. Hardin recruited a large number of gifted African-American science and engineering students for summer interships at the laboratory. Most of the past interns have gone on to graduate schools and careers in research and teaching. She was also instrumental in procuring scientific equipment, computer hardware and software, and professional assistance from the laboratory for a number of historically Black Colleges and Universities. The laboratory is holding a memorial service for Dr. Hardin on Friday morning, August 2, at the Trinity Church on the Hill in Los Alamos.
