This is a beautiful flared mug made for the 1937 Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, later the Queen Mother, and a must for any collector of Royal Commemorative ware. On one side is a complex decoration of painting, gilding and enamelling with George and the Dragon in the centre, a jewelled crown above, G&E below and a banner proclaiming 'Long May They Reign'. On the other side is a cartouche with G&E inside, a crown above, 'Long May They Reign' and 'Coronation May 12th 1937'. The decoration is against a cobalt blue ground. The handle has a moulded English Rose, Scottish Thistle and leaves, all hand painted. Around the inside of the rim is 'Long Life To Their Majesties' in gold. There are no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs and no wear to the pattern or gilding. There are two scratches on the cartouche side, one below and one above. 4.5in/11.5cm high.
