47pc GORHAM MELROSE pat STERLING SILVER FLATWARE SET Presented is a nice 47 piece sterling silver flatware set by Gorham Manufacturing Company. The set is done in the Melrose pattern which was first produced in 1948. The knives have sterling silver handles and stainless steel blades. The set includes: 8 knives: 8 3/4 inches 6 dinner forks: 7 1/8 inches 6 salad or dessert forks: 6 1/2 inches 3 cocktail forks: 5 5/8 inches 12 teaspoons: 5 7/8 inches 6 round soup spoons: 6 1/4 inches 6 place spoons: 6 3/4 inches The knives are marked Stainless on the blades and Sterling Handle on the handles. The other pieces are hallmarked on the reverse with Gorham's old company hallmarks, Gorham, Sterling, and Melrose. Everything is solid sterling silver except for the steel knife blades. The condition is excellent. The set has some surface wear commensurate with age and light use and a couple of the knives have small dings on the ends of the handles, but this is minor. T are no dents, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs. The weight is 1721.1 grams or 60.3 ounces. This does not include the weight of the knives because of their stainless steel blades. This set comes with an optional, free, bonus box as seen in the photographs. The box is a felt lined wooden box. The box has surface wear but is effective in protecting the set against tarnishing. This box is free, and is not considered to be part of the value of this auction. If you do not want the box let us know and we can reduce shipping fees accordingly.
