2011 Glazed Small RedwareSgraffito Decorated Pie PlateEaster Bunny and Egg Basket Yellow Backgroundby Lester BreiningerFor your Breininger or Contemporary Redware Collection.Details Description: A small (~6 7/8" diameter) redware pie plate by The Breininger Pottery. The plate has round flat base with slightly rounded flared sides. The sides terminate at a plain rim. The exterior of the plate as well as the bottom are not glazed and display the typical coloring of unglazed redware pottery. The inside is glazed with a yellow colored background having green splotched highlights (indicative of copper oxide) along the edge and blue sponged clouds above a sgraffito design of an Easter bunny rabbit standing in front of a basket containing colorful eggs. There are two eggs in the grass under the bunny's feet. The grass itself is highlighted with green splotches. The sun is shining above the bunny and there are birds in the sky. A beautiful Easter design with typical Pennsylvania Dutch colors typical of such wear. This is a beautiful folk art plate celebrating Easter having nice Pennsylvania Dutch colors made in the studios of a great potter with the right heritage.
