Description : A primitive, quart-size 19thC. Redware Whiskey Jug, 8-5/8"H, New England origin, possibly Gonic, New Hampshire, c.1820-1840Wheel-thrown, tapered cylindrical form with tooled spout and applied strap handle. Covered in an attractive mottled olive-green glaze with orange spotting typical of the early New England potteries.Condition : Good to Very Good overall with desirable size and tremendous character. Imperfections are noted below:Rim with expected wear including some small chips and glaze flakes, as shown.Body with several surface and firing imperfections, including scars, stack marks, iron pings, glaze drips, etc. in-the-making. Of note: there is a an oval, thumb-size chip/flake noted on the right side, mid-body (see close-up, photo #12).Base is partially glazed with some typical wear consistent with age, use and handling.No cracks, repaired damage or restoration work.Charming size with wonderful, multi-color glaze.
