Making available for your bid is this very lovely 19 th C. Victorian Papier Mache Cheroot Etui. v The miniature front portrait pictures a young woman covered only midriff, basking in the sun, eyes closed, near water's edge, with her dog and sheep. Plus, the unnoticed young admirer. v The reverse side is solid black with gold lettering "SEGARS". v The two contoured papier mache plaques are joined by a leather gusset, and t is an inner case made of heavy textured card, also with a leather gusset. The inner case held the cheroots and fit into the outer decorative painted case. v No doubt, it's quite old and has been used ! However, the painted panels are in very good condition with neither cracks nor touch-ups. v T are light scratches on both outer surfaces. v Additionally, t is wear to the inner case. v The exterior gusset has creases and is torn on both sides. v It measures 5 1/8" x 2 15/16" and ¾" deep v Uncertain of its origin. v Very unusual and quite rare piece. T is a reserve in place. v Hopefully, our pics will answer your questions; if not, please contact us for further information.
