1995 Bing and Grondahl Towers of Copenhagen Ornament

Bing & Grondahl began the tradition of making annual Christmas plates in 1895, when the president of the company, Harald Bing, produced "Behind the Frozen Window Pane". The B & G Christmas plates were the first in what has become the world's oldest collector series. After an initial firing, the plates are hand-painted in the famous Bing & Grondahl blue and white color scheme.The ornaments are made using the same process, with the illustrations on both sides; the first one was introduced in 1985. The 1995 "drop" ornament is titled The Towers of Copenhagen. It depicts Copenhagen 's cathedral, church and city hall towers looming above the city's snow covered roofs. The view of the city is seen through an ice-frosted window pane. The gate of a park is closest to the window. To the left of the tallest tower is the traditional B&G Christmas star. The gold-gilt hanger has a bell motif; the ornament is in its original box.The artwork on the 3½ inches long ornament was created by award winning Danish artist Jorgen Nielsen and is in mint condition.
