ADVANCED KENTUCKY DERBY GLASS COLLECTORS KNOW THAT THE 1945 AND THE 1948 KENTUCKY DERBY GLASS WITH A FROSTED BOTTOM TURN CLEAR WHEN WATER IS RUN OVER THEM. ALSO KENTUCKY DERBY HISTORIANS KNOW THAT OLD FORESTER WAS USED IN EARLY MINT JULEPS SOLD AT THE KENTUCKY DERBY. THE GLASS THAT I HAVE UP FOR BIDS HAS EXACTLY THE SAME TYPE OF FROSTING, WHICH CLEARS UP WHEN WATER IS RUN OVER IT, AS THE 1945 AND 1948 KENTUCKY DERBY GLASSES, AND COULD VERY WELL HAVE BEEN USED TO MAKE THE MINT JULEPS THAT WERE SERVED AT CHURCHILL DOWNS ON KENTUCKY DERBY DAY BEFORE CHURCHILL DOWNS OFFICIALS DECIDED TO PUT THE KENTUCKY DERBY LOGO ON IT. IT HAS THE SAME TYPE OF GREEN PRINT, ALSO. THIS IS A VERY RARE GLASS AND WOULD STAND OUT IN AN ADVANCED KENTUCKY DERBY GLASS COLLECTION. IT HAS THE SAME LOGO PRINTED ON BOTH ITS FRONT AND ITS BACK SIDE. I HAVE ATTACHED A PHOTOGRAPH OF ITS FROSTED BOTTOM WITH THE LIBBEY "L" STAMPED ON IT. THE "L" DOESN'T SHOW UP WELL IN MY PHOTOGRAPH, BUT IS EASY TO SEE WHEN LOOKING AT THE GLASS IN PERSON. OF ALL OF THE VARIOUS MINT JULEP GLASSES MADE THROUGH THE YEARS, THIS IS THE ONE THAT COLLECTORS SHOULD INCLUDE IN THEIR KENTUCKY DERBY GLASS COLLECTIONS.I'm starting the bidding at the ridiculously low price of NINETY-NINE cents.
