It is best known for its early production of glass jars, lids, and related products used for home canning. Since its founding in Buffalo, New York in 1880. The Ball brothers renamed their business the Ball Brothers Glass Manufacturing Company, incorporated in 1886. Its headquarters, as well as its glass and metal manufacturing operations, were relocated to Muncie, Indiana, by 1889. The business was renamed the Ball Brothers Company in 1922 and the Ball Corporation in 1969.Ball Ideal Pat'd July 14, 1908 -- Ball's "Ideal" line was manufactured from 1915 to 1962. To date this box, study the "BALL" logo. The script "BALL" name has an underscore (underlined) which was returned to the logo from 1933 to 1962. The price "20" was handwritten on the box top. 20 cents was the price of these lids in pre-WW II days (pre-1941)In 1989, organizations including the National Center for Home Food Production and the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that older style jars, especially the wire bail style, were not recommended for home canning methods.
