My Uncle bought them in Paris in 1964 and they have never been for sale. What they appear to be are studies of famous Neoclassical/Napoleonic paintings done in Gouache/Wash and pencil. The only reference we have is that all of them are dated in pencil in the corner. This one has another painting on the reverse side also (not as detailed). You'll notice that this style of painting was popular in the 20's and 30's with American and European artists alike...probably because of the cheap cost of the medium vs. working with oil on canvas.
