Head back a century ago with this Charles "Buck" Herzog personal collection of documents dating from 1918-1921. A solid third baseman during the "Deadball Era", Herzog bounced around the NL with several teams from 1908-1920, winning four pennants along the way with the NY Giants. He also served as player-manager for the Cincinnati Reds from 1914-1916. Here we have (1) Herzog MLB contract and (2) typed letters signed by important executives, with one signed by Washington Senators president Clark Griffith and one signed by NL president John Heydler. Auction LOA from JSA.Featured are:Buck Herzog's 1919 contract with the Boston Braves in solid condition with moderate signs of wear and several original period compacting folds, this original document is signed on the third page by Charles Herzog ("7-8", d.1953) and Braves team president Percy Haughton ("7", d.1924). This was Herzog's second to last MLB contract, as he played one more season in 1920 with the Chicago Cubs.2/21/21 Dated TLS on "Washington American League Base Ball Club" letterhead in fairly crisp condition with deference to original period compacting folds, addressed to Herzog and signed by Washington Senators HOF team president and owner Clark Griffith (d.1955) with stylish ("9") potency.
