This historic 1909 postcard depicts the exterior view of Shibe Park, the historic Philadelphia baseball park opened in 1909 (in 1953 renamed Connie Mack Stadium). The beautiful ballpark was the first steel and concrete stadium. Home to the Philadelphia Athletics (1909-1954) of the American League and years later also became home to the Philadelphia Phillies (NL) and the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL (1940, 1942-1957). Witness to an abundance of sports history, its French Renaissance design caused the Philadelphia Public Ledger to call it, "...a palace for fans, the most beautiful and capacious baseball structure in the world."
