This is an 1909 Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition AYPE logo enameled sterling pin. Made by Paye & Baker. It measures about 1 1/8" x 1 1/2". Shows wear, enamel in good condition.Paye & Baker Manufacturing Co. was founded by Charles Paye and Frank Baker around the year 1901. The silversmith company is the successors to Simmons & Paye. Simmons & Paye was located in Providence, Rhode Island. However after succeeded by Paye & Baker and the company relocate to North Attleboro, MA in the year 1903.Paye & Baker manufacture a small line of sterling flatware, sterling silver souvenir spoons and some other small silver novelties. However the company stop manufacturing flatware around the 1920s. Went out of business as a separate entity in the early 1960s.The Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, held in Seattle from June 1 to October 16, followed on the heels of the 1906 Lewis and Clark Exposition in Portland, Oregon. Initial inspiration for the fair came from a group of Alaska's gold rush pioneers in 1905. In 1906, Seattle businessmen altered the original plan, postponed the 1907 date (so as not to conflict with the Jamestown, Virginia tricentennial celebration) until 1909, and sought financial support for an enlarged scope.
