THEY CONSIST OF A MATCHED PAIR AND TWO VERY SIMILAR ADDITIONS. ALL IN IN FANTASTIC CONDITION AND ARE READY TO USE. THEY ALL ARE FROM HE SAME CHARLESTOWN, MA SCHOOL OF WINDSORS FROM THE LATE 18TH CENTURY.THIS IS CHAIR #1 WHICH IS FROM THE MATCHED PAIR. WE WILL BE LISTING CHAIR #2 THE OTHER OF THE PAIR THIS WEEK AND THE OTHER TWO NEXT WEEK.CHAIR #1AN EXTREMELY RARE UNSIGNED 18TH CENTURY MASSACHUSETTS WINDSOR "BOW-BACK" SIDE CHAIR WITH 9 TURNED SPINDLES, TWO FINELY TURNED STEM BENT SUPPORTS, A HAND HEWN SADDLE SEAT WITH SPLAYED BAMBOO TURNED LEGS IN NICE MELLOW REFINISHED SURFACE. VERY SIMILAR IN DESIGN AND FORM AS THE SIGNED EXAMPLES BY THE CHAIR MAKER "T.C. HAYWARD" WHO IS LISTED AS A CABINETMAKER AND CHAIR MAKER IN CHARLESTON, MA FROM 1770-1800.Charlestown, MA, Circa 1790-1800. A VERY RARE "UNSIGNED" EXAMPLE. Charlestown, MA was in the period part of Boston.Great early example of a very rare Charlestown, MA Windsor. It has a wonderful shaped hand hewn pine seat and very nice turned "bamboo" legs and stretchers with the very pronounced and distinctive feet found on the other documented examples of Hayward's chairs.For more information on T.C.
