This document group of two West Point orders, dated 1896 and 1899, is signed by Wilbur E. Wilder, William Rivers and on back of the Wilder orders by Edward King. Two orders, each 8x10, minor faults, else in overall good condition.Wilber Elliott Wilder (August 18, 1857 – January 30, 1952) was a United States Army Brigadier General who was a recipient of the Medal of Honor for rescuing a wounded soldier under heavy fire.In 1886, he was a key figure in negotiating the surrender of the Apache chief Geronimo.He rode alone into the Apache camp to negotiate Geronimo's surrender.While an Army Captain, he served as acting superintendent of Yellowstone National Park from March 15, 1899 - June 22, 1899. He also served in Spanish–American War, Pancho Villa Expedition, World War I. From 1913 to 1916, he was commander of Fort Myer. At the time of his death, he was the oldest surviving graduate of the Academy.In an 1882 battle with the Apaches in Horseshoe Canyon, N.M., Gen. Wilder, then a lieutenant, carried a wounded comrade down the side of a mountain amid a hail of Apache bullets, an act of heroism that earned him the medal of honor in 1896.Rivers, William Cannon was born on January 11, 1866 in Pulaski, missioned Second lieutenant 1st Cavalry, United States Army, June 12, 1887.
